The Dance Step all began in a simple suburban home basement with neighborhood kids just having fun! Word got around and more and more kids wanted to join in! The Dance Step's enrollment got too big for her home, so Miss Debi Schnell asked her church if she could teach dance in their basement.
In 1995 The Dance Step’s doors opened! Miss Debi got her dance friends together to help her out. Miss Lucinda Bird (a former Cleveland Ballet dancer) joined the team. Not after too long, Miss Cindy became a partner, and shortly after the business traded hands. As students of Miss Cindy’s, Erica Drap and Michelle Serra expressed a love for their “home away from home”. Miss Cindy took them under her wing first making them assistant teachers under her, and soon after allowing them to teach their own classes. Miss Cindy’s family was then transferred to Pennsylvania and Miss Erica and Miss Michelle were eager and ready to step in.
Taking on the studio responsibilities in 2001, they bought TDS at the tender ages of 21 and 22. This had been both of their homes since they were 15 years old. They were determined to keep TDS feeling like a safe place to all who entered their doors. The moment you walk into one of Miss Erica, or Miss Michelle’s classes, you became “their kids”. TDS started to become too big for their humble church basement that they had grown to love, so in the summer of 2012, they moved into their current location! WE HAVE BIG, BEAUTIFUL, WINDOWS!
With such happiness came sadness. Without much warning, Miss Erica passed that December at the age of 33. Miss Michelle still continues the same values that TDS began with. She and her team strive too educate children in the art of dance. The main goal of The Dance Step is to provide your child with quality lessons in a happy, friendly atmosphere with an emphasis on developing confidence and self-esteem.
